Big news. My band’s Kickstarter Project is officially launched! For those of you who are well versed in the ways of crowd source funding, I hope you take the time to check out our project at the link below and consider backing it. For those of you who are Kickstarter novices, here’s a primer.
1. What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a crowd source funding website that facilitates the backing of creative projects from starting your own food truck, to funding an album, to the creation of a video game.
2. How does Kickstarter work?
Kickstarter opperates on an all or nothing template. If we reach our goal or exceed it, we get the money, if we don’t, we get nothing. Backers’ accounts aren’t charged unless the project is successfully funded.
Backers can contribute at various levels and receive rewards for each level. The more a backer contributes, the more elaborate and awesome the reward. If someone donates to our campaign at the $25 level, it’s the equivalent of pre-ordering the CD.
3. How is Kickstarter different from charity?
Kickstarter is not tax deductible. In fact, Kickstarter explicitly states in their rules that you can’t use kickstarter to collect charitable donations. Backers always get something in return for their contribution, so it’s more akin to investment than charity.
