I’m So Excited!

Okay, now how many of you have the Pointer Sisters Song stuck in your head? Just me? Well, I’ve had “I’m So Excited” playing on repeat in my head for the last two weeks. I’ve been breaking out in random acts of dance for a week. I’m grinning like a fool and skipping down the street. Why? Because I’m going on a cruise! Not just any cruise either: a writer’s cruise. And not any ol’ writer’s cruise: it’s the Out of Excuses 2016 Writer’s Retreat!

The other night, I was over at a friend’s house playing D&D (Yes, shocker, I’m a total geek) when Brandon Sanderson came up in conversation (it happens when you get enough geeks together in a room for any length of time) and I started to jump up and down in my chair with a goofy grin on my face. My friends all stared at me like I was a crazy person (to be fair, I’m a writer; crazy is implicit). I grinned even wider and said, “I just realized that in one week I’m going to be on a cruise ship with Brandon Sanderson!”

(For anyone who doesn’t know who Brandon Sanderson is, click here and here).

There’s an amazing writing podcast that I listen to called Writing Excuses, hosted by Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette-Kowal, Dan Wells, and Howard Tayler. It’s tailored for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror writers, but I think anyone who wants to write could find it a great resource about craft and process.

I’ve been listening to the podcast for a little over a year, and when I found out about last year’s cruise/retreat I was all ready to sign up and set sail, but it was the week before the cruise and registration was full.

This year, though I was on top of things. I saved up, signed up, and now I’m off to writer’s paradise! I’m looking forward to being able to meet other writers in my genre and share this experience with them. So, tomorrow, I’m flying down to Florida and Saturday, I’m going on a week-long cruise filled with Q&A session, break-out groups, workshops, and all sorts of other writerly fun! Have I mentioned how excited I am?

Thank you for reading! I hope the extra exclamation points in today’s post didn’t put too many of you off.
