In 2017, our beloved golden retriever, Lucy passed away. The vet came to our house one early January morning and we sat around her in the living room to say goodbye, holding the other dogs as we watched.
It was one of the most beautiful moments, filled to the brim with peace and love and care. It was a moment I wanted to pin down, to hold onto and so I opened my notebook and wrote. Usually, whenever I have a strong emotion I want to preserve, it comes out in the form of a song (such was the case when our dog, Ginger died suddenly and I wrote the song For Ginger, which the band eventually recorded). But this time, out came a story about dragons in Maine and the people who care for them.
I never imagined that a story I wrote in a moment of grief would some day be published, but I’m pleased to announce, that today “And the Red Dragon Passes” was published by Zooscape and is free to read.
This is for you Lucy, you big beautiful goof.
Thank you for Reading!
