On the morning of July 7th at 2:30 am AWST, I woke up so that I could attend the presentation of the 2021 Leo Literary Awards. Luckily, I didn’t have to leave my bed or make myself up in any fancy attire. I didn’t even have to prepare a speech in advance. All I had to do was log into a Zoom meeting and listen as the nominees and recipients of each award were read out. The ceremony lasted thirteen minutes, and I was able to go back to bed when it was over.
That might seem a bit anti-climactic, but I was happy to be able to learn that my story “And the Red Dragon Passes,” which was published in Zooscape in 2021, was one of the Leo Award recipients under the Short Story category. Of all the stories I’ve ever written, this story is dearest to my heart. It’s the most personal thing I’ve ever written, in as much as a story about dragons can be personal.

I’d like to express my heartfelt congratulations to all my fellow nominees and winners!
Thanks so much for reading!
